Growing up has never been easy, but it comes a lot easier when a young person is part of a supportive Christian fellowship.  Student Ministries at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church encourages its participants to develop a healthy balance in life:  socially, intellectually, and spiritually.  To accomplish this, the student ministries program offers fun and spirited events, activities and studies for youth.  Student Ministries provides a safe place for our youth and their friends to grow in their Christian faith.

MISSION STATEMENT

To enhance one another’s faith in Christ and lay a foundation for future generations by following God’s footsteps into the future and keeping our focus on Christ around us.

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP GROUP

The United Methodist Youth Fellowship group consists of youth from 7th through 12th grades.  Group activities throughout the year consist of social gatherings like sledding, attending hockey and basketball games, lock-ins and mission projects such as the CROP walk, serving meals at St. Benedict’s Center in Milwaukee and church cleanup days.  Vicki and Pete Szpara serve as youth coordinators.

EVENTS

Throughout the year special events are planned for students and their friends to enjoy.   The best way to keep informed is by attending Sunday School, reading the monthly church newsletter and weekly church bulletins, or checking out the ever-changing bulleting board, located outside Nursery room.

PROGRAMS

The United Methodist Church believes God's love for the world is an active and engaged love.  We care enough about people's lives to take action, not live our lives as casual observers.  Below are a few of the programs that guide our children to think and act out of this faith perspective.

  • Penny Challenge – A coin challenge between the youth and the adults in our congregation.   Funds raised are donated to different programs each year.

  • Campership Luncheon – All youth are encouraged to attend one of the many church camps available during the summer.  A special luncheon is sponsored to raise funds for “camperships”  for our youth.

  • Aluminum Can Pop-top Collection – These are collected by the youth and donated to the Ronald McDonald House.   These donations help families who can’t otherwise afford to stay with their children during treatment.

  • Super Bowl of Caring – A nationwide fundraiser in support of youth mission programs.
